Annual Energy Savings:
Renovation of the cooling system
Elan is a Slovenian company with a decade-long tradition of innovations in skis, ski equipment, sailboats, wind composites and other sports equipment. They have been our client in many energy-efficiency projects. They recently entrusted us with a new, fourth project, where we developed a technical and economical solution for a centralised cooling system. Two new high-efficiency cooling units were installed at one location, each with two separate cooling cycles and six compressors. The units also have a ‘free cooling’ option, which means that they operate without the help of compressors whenever the outside temperatures are low enough (in autumn, winter and spring). In such conditions, they use up to 15 times less energy than usual, thus cooling the user very efficiently.
The investment resulted in financial savings for the company, as they now do not need to rent two additional cooling units during the summer. Moreover, the renovation reduced the threat of major material damage if a failure of a cooling unit causes production downtime, material defects or poor working conditions for employees. Until now the cooling units were located throughout the company premises and provided cooling only for certain technological lines or rooms. The cooling system is now centralised and is equipped with the cascading operation option. As the entire system is divided into four parts, it can still provide sufficient cooling even if one part malfunctions. All this is operated and controlled via a central control system. Last but not least, the energy renovation benefits the environment: annual CO2 emissions will be reduced by 220 tons, which is equal to the amount of CO2 absorbed by about 9,000 trees in a year.

Renovation of lighting
ELAN has replaced a total of 584 obsolete and inefficient lights with 491 efficient LED lights. One of the benefits of new lights is that they automatically adjust their brightness according to outside light. The new lights are more energy-efficient, which results in significantly lower electricity and maintenance costs. Properly selected and well-positioned lights have improved the working environment.
